Transalta Corp. is a Canadian non-regulated electricity generation and marketing company with an net ownership interest in 8,000(MW) of generating capacity located in Canada, US and western Australia. Facilities fueled by coal located in Alberta contribute 27% of profits and natural gas at 23%. Wind, solar and hydro facilities facilities owned through their 60% investment in Transalta Renewables contribute 30%, and another 13% from natural gas owned by Transalta Renewables in western Australia. US coal fired facilities are directly owned and contribute 6%.
The Canadian Coal segment has a net ownership interest of 3,033 MW of electrical generating capacity. The U.S. Coal segment holds the Centralia thermal(coal) plant, comprising 1,340 MW. The Hydro segment has a net ownership interest 926 MWof electrical generating capacity predominantly located in Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario. The Wind and Solar segment has a net ownership interest of approximately 1,353 MW of electrical generating capacity and includes facilities located in Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick, Québec, Wyoming, Massachusetts, and Minnesota. The Canadian Gas segment totals 837 MW located in Alberta and Ontario. The Australian Gas segment consists of 450 MW. The Energy Marketing segment is responsible for marketing our production through short-term and long-term contracts, and contracting fuel fuel supply, and managing hedging contracts.
TransAlta Corporation owns 61% of TransAlta Renewables. TransAlta Renewables was formed in 2013.
