Rogers Communications (RCI.B) is one of Canada's main providers of High-Speed Internet, Cable Television, and Phone Services. All three segments operate substantially in Canada. Wireless telecommunications operations for Canadian consumers and businesses; Cable telecommunications operations, including Internet, television, and telephone services for Canadian consumers and businesses; Business solutions offers Network connectivity through their fibre network and data centre assets to support a range of voice, data, networking, hosting, and cloud-based services for the enterprise, public sector, and carrier wholesale markets; and Media Properties, including sports media and entertainment, television and radio broadcasting, specialty channels, multi-platform shopping, digital media, and publishing. Management estimates they have a 34% subscriber share and 33% revenue share of the Canadian wireless market. Each Class A Voting share of RCI carries the right to fifty votes and are held 90% held in a family trust. The Class B shares (RCI.B) are listed on the TSX is non-voting. The Class A and B shares each receive the same dividend and have the same rights to assets, the difference in voting rights results in control by the family trust.
Assets were $38.5B as of Jun-30-2020, compared to $37B as Dec-31-2019. The increase was from unrealized gains on interest rate derivative hedges. Operations are in three segments; Wireless, Cable, and Media contributing 68%, 30% and 2% of earnings respectively.
The wireless network is capable of supporting wireless services on smartphones, tablets, computers, and a broad variety of machine-to-machine and specialized devices. Deployment of their LTE network has reached 95% of Canada's population.
