There is plenty riding on the outcome of the US mid-term elections.
From a broad political view this includes the future for globalization or nationalism as the two main opposing forces, it also includes trade policy negotiations between Canada and the US, and a US tax system that is soon to be graded by the bond markets.
The upcoming year-end financial results are the biggest test so far in the young life of the new US tax system. The first year-end numbers since the cuts were passed will in December 2017, will be available sometime after the middle of October and before the November 7 elections. The information provided by the financial results could skew public support for globalization or reconfirm if the new trend to nationalism is something more than a fad.
