COVID and climate change are two problems without geographical boundaries, the cures are costly. Both contribute to inflation.
Inflation rates have risen to 6% in the US. This has been experienced only once before since 1980. Prior to that, it took the recovery from two world wars to plant the seeds of inflation. COVID and climate change are still smaller and less problematic issues by comparison.
Should the inflation problems become larger and more persistent than initially thought, practical solutions for COVID and climate change will take on more immediacy. With enough time, technology will find solutions, except this would be well beyond typical election cycles. Comments this week establish some benchmarks for measuring progress and check the political temperature of the inflation issue.
